1970 performance from minimal music composer Steve Reich. Berkeley University Museum 11/07/70 captures Reich's return to the San Francisco Bay Area. He'd previously studied at Mills College with Luciano Berio and Darius Milhaud, and performed the 1964 world premiere of Terry Riley's seminal In C at the San Francisco Tape Music Center. The four pieces featured here - "Four Organs," "My Name Is," "Piano Phase," and "Phase Patterns" - are prime examples of Reich's early experimentation with phasing and tape manipulations. They deal with repetition and subtle rhythmic change. Released by modern silence on numbered, limited edition transparent red vinyl.
