While with Gossip, Beth Ditto was at the forefront of the dance-punk sound, and for this solo debut full-length, we certainly hear traces of the now-defunct band. Ditto also gets in touch w/ her roots (she's originally from Arkansas), and the songs on Fake Sugar also display Southern rock influences, which she's able to meld comfortably w/ disco & pop. This release might be the one to break her into the mainstream, check out "Fire," "In And Out," "We Could Run," "Oo La La," and the title track.
